The Challenge

CREE Lighting wanted to create a web application program that could control and automate processes for lighting in commercial buildings. They needed to deliver value to their customers through a unique system that would improve their clients’ profitability by cutting energy costs.

CREE Lighting needed web app developers who could create an interface that was powerful yet simple. The primary purpose of their project was to automate and optimize the lighting in commercial spaces to reduce consumption.

The Solution

We helped the client redefine intelligent lighting with an intuitive and simple platform that is robust and user-friendly. We created the firmware for the smart lighting control system. With our combined efforts, CREE Lighting was able to contribute to a more efficient, environmentally-friendly world. This web application gives recommendations for daylight harvesting, occupancy sensing, and optional task tuning to cut lighting bills by up to 70%.

Our Strategy

Our web application designers met one-on-one with CREE Lighting’s team to discuss their goals and vision for the project. We were essentially starting from scratch to create a totally innovative platform that was unique to our client.
Our first step was to get to know CREE Lighting by discovering more about their brand, their intentions, and what their program needed to do.

(Phase 1)

Discovery & Planning

The first 4 weeks of the project with CREE Lighting were focused solely on discovery and design.

We dived deep into research to discover the features and programs that matched up best with CREE’s goals.

Our team kept a keen eye on how to best make life easy for the user – while keeping the client’s expectations in mind.

Design the Wireframes

Next, our team started to create design layouts to give the clients an idea of how the final program would look and operate.

Got approval on each aspect of our designs
Pitched new ideas for a more refined approach
Once we had come to a final design agreement, the web app development team got to work building the back and frontends for the system.

Development

The development stage was very involved – taking us around 30 weeks in total.

First, our developers created the core functionality of the program.
This involved building the user journey around new IoT functionality and refining the experience
We integrated with sensors to collect data for optimization.
Our main objective was to build out a UX that was as concise and as streamlined as possible.

(Phase 4)

Testing, Optimizing, Finalizing

To create a web app that would not only meet our client’s needs but also provide their customers with an exceptional experience, we needed to test and optimize every touchpoint.

We analyzed hundreds of surveys, questionnaires, and interviews from real users.
It helped us to identify any kinks that needed to be worked out.

The Results

The newly developed web application empowered CREE Lighting to offer an intuitive platform that automates lighting controls in commercial spaces. By integrating features like daylight harvesting, occupancy sensing, and task tuning, the solution enables significant energy savings and enhances user experience.
